Description
Viking Platinum 750: Designed With Quilters In Mind Quilters Special Brand New  When you buy one of these machines you are buying from a long time trusted dealer who is known for his excellent customer service. Manufactures Retail Price $1599.00 The Viking Platinum 750 electronic sewing machine offers the features quilters want without weighing you down with features you will never use. I also found a lot to like in the way the machine is set up - everything is easy to access and easy to use. The Platinum 750 gives you several stitches for piecing, for applique, and for quilting. The scant-1/4" stitch puts you just a push of a button away from perfectly sized blocks. Piecing with the recommended foot, I found it easy to line up the fabric with the edge of the foot to get the correct size. I got perfect results first time, every time. Next I tested the stitches for applique and crazy quilting. I was pleased at how easy it is to line up the satin stitch with the edge of the design. The spot in the center of the foot helped me align the fabric properly, so the satin stitch came out perfectly balanced on the edge of the applique. Changing The Satin Stitch The factory setting for the satin stitch is quite wide and very slightly spaced, which gives a nice finished look but doesn't make the edge too bulky. To test other possibilities, I shortened the stitch length by one setting and tried several different widths. I was pleased with the results of all my trials. The Platinum 750 also offers a feather stitch, a blanket stitch, and several variations on those stitches that would look nice on the edges of garments as well as on the edges of crazy quilt blocks. I liked the design of the variations on stitches, giving a hand-stitched look to patches in crazy quilts. There are several motif stitches you can use to machine-tie a quilt, and you don't have to mess around storing motif stitches and tie-off stitches into memory. Just press FIX, select the stitch, and sew. The machine sews one complete motif and ties the ends so it doesn't come undone. This is a great alternative to machine quilting - it's fast and easy, and the motifs add to the overall design of the quilt. Block Letters For Quilt Labels Included in the 168 stitches that come with the Platinum 750 are 52 block letters (upper and lower case) plus punctuation and numbers. The block letters are a great way to make fast quilt labels. The Platinum 750 has two memories, each of which can store up to 30 stitches. This is a great place to store the part of the quilt label that doesn't change, like your name, city, and state. You can enter things like the date and who the quilt was made for when it is time to sew the label. If you are interested in heavy embellishing or in wearable art, you will appreciate the Platinum 750's feature they call Perfectly Balanced Buttonholes. Each side of the buttonhole is sewn in the same direction (instead of clockwise around the buttonhole, as most machines do) for a neat, uniform look. Needle Up/Down The needle up/down button moves the needle to the opposite position when the button is pushed and displays the needle's new position on the screen. This immediate response allows you to use the needle up/down button to draw up your thread or to hold a piece in place for pivoting. The bobbin compartment of the Platinum 750 has a thread cutter and automatic thread take-up to the bed of the machine. When you run out of thread in the bobbin, you don't have to un-thread the machine - you take the thread that runs through the needle and use it to rewind the bobbin! This is a great feature when you're using the same thread on top and in the bobbin. The Platinum 750 comes with a horizontal spool pin and a vertical spool pin. Both are installed permanently, so you don't have to fish around in the accessory compartment to change the thread orientation of hard-to-manage thread. The needle threader on the Platinum 750 doesn't use a stiff spring-back like other machines. The threader is easy to pull down and holds itself in place until you have wrapped the thread. It is easy to release and it springs back without accidentally unthreading the needle. This is the easiest manual sewing machine threader I've used. Stiff Dials Both the thread tension and presser foot pressure dials are easy to see on the front of the machine. Working on a brand-new machine fresh out of the box, I found the dials a little stiff. The ribbing on the dials hurt my fingers a bit with the amount of pressure I needed to use to turn the dials. But I'm sure the dials will loosen up over time. The Platinum 750's screen shows the needle position, the menu you have selected, and the stitch number (or alphabet letter or number) you have selected. It also shows the stitch width and length. Unfortunately, the 750 doesn't offer a graphic display of running stitches, which would be much easier to understand than a stitch number. The Platinum 770 offers a graphic display of running stitches, but don't get too excited about the 770 until you've read my comments on the whole Platinum family below. The Platinum 750 has a streamlined look, and in keeping with that look the controls give you fast, streamlined access to all the machine's features. One button gives you access to all 35 stitches from Menu One, the most commonly used stitches. Push another button for access to the second menu of stitches. Stitches are all identified by number. Just flip up the top to see which stitch is associated with each number. Confusing Family While I liked the 750 just fine, when I looked at related sewing machines - the Platinum 730 and the Platinum 770 - I got confused. Viking calls the Platinum series a family of sewing machines, and the machines certainly look very much alike. But unlike other families of sewing machines, the similarities among Viking Platinum machines are relatively superficial. With most sewing machine lines, the features are "additive" - the next model up has all the features of the previous model, plus some new ones. But that's not true of some major features in the Platinum family. For example, the Platinum 730 has a built-in Sewing Advisor. The Platinum 750 doesn't. The Platinum 750 has a nice assortment of quilting stitches. The Platinum 770 doesn't. Different Kinds Of Sewers Instead of adding new features as you move up the Platinum line, each machine in this family targets the specific needs of a different kind of sewer. So features come and go as you move from machine to machine. Targeting the specific needs of specific kinds of sewers is a great idea. It's just a little confusing if you're used to stepping up to the next model and having all the features of the previous model, plus more. The Platinum 750 (suggested list price: $1,599) is the Platinum sewing machine for quilters. It's a nice machine that is easy to use. And because it's designed with quilters in mind, it has just the features we want.  Store Policies Shipping Policy One Stop Mart  uses UPS and USPS as its primary shippers.  We offer both standard ground and various expedited shipping methods.
