The cloth plate has a stitch length indicator  as well as various patent dates  for both the U.S.A. and Great Britain Gibbs patented the first chain-stitch  single-thread sewing machine  on June 2, 1857,  after an earlier patent for part of a sewing machine in 1856.  He was awarded patent number 17,427 on his machine.  12"  x  14" A  great  machine  for  any  collection.
